The Sheela Na Gig hat was designed first as an homage to the great novel “Riddley Walker” by Russell Hoban, and most recently as a way to gift many friends who will be attending the Million Woman March in Washington DC on January 21st, 2017. The Sheela figures are found in many places in the UK and especially Ireland, where my family was from before coming to the USA in the 1920s. These figures are powerful totems for women and the image is especially powerful today.

One skein of Malabrigo Worsted will net 1.8-2 complete hats, which might be appropriate to mail to Washington DC if I can get permission from the good people working on the Pussy Hat Project. I may update this tomorrow.

Word to the wise: I love to knit cable patterns, but had to invent my own way to chart the pattern. Anybody has my permission to rechart in a more conventional way and share if they so desire.
