When my children were small, we spent every summer vacation visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Florida. They live on an island within walking distance of the beach. My daughter especially enjoyed going to the beach every day looking for shells. When she was little, any shell would do, but as she grew (and with Grandma’s excellent tutelage) she developed an excellent ability to find only the best shells. When I saw this yarn, it reminded me of those hours on the beach looking through the seaweed that had washed up on the shore for those perfect shells! The shape and colors remind me of the shape and colors we found on the beach during those vacations.

This shawl begins with a stockinette stitch cast on that closely mimics an I-cord but (I think) is easier to execute. As the yarn transitions from color to color, the stitch patterns transition as well. Shades of green begin as garter, become a diagonal eyelet with radiating stockinette stitch spines down the center and the 2 side sections, then change back to garter before transitioning into the purple feather and fan final pattern. I-cord bind off creates a bottom edge that blends perfectly with the rolled stockinette stitch side stitches.

The pattern is fully written but also includes optional charts for the diagonal eyelet section and the feather and fan section.

As a bonus, this pattern also includes instructions for a version using DK weight yarn. Because of differing stitch counts and repeats, it is included as a stand alone pattern but is exactly the same design, just on a slightly different scale. Your purchase will give you access to both versions. Each version uses one skein of Done Roving yarn with just a few yards left over so gauge wisely!

This is the first of six designs I am creating using Done Roving yarn. Each pattern will be available as an independent pattern or can be purchased at a discount as an E-book. Patterns will be released as testing is completed.

I had trouble with the ebook so changed to a promotion. Buy any 2 of my patterns and get a third pattern free. Just add the patterns to your cart and discount will be taken when you check out.
