My stash included several single skeins of Red Heart Super Saver yarn, left over from precious projects. When I saw the first mention of a community drive for winter clothing and accessories like scarves and gloves, I had a “eureka” moment. (Yes, that says “winter“ and it is August. I live in Alberta where it is snowed last September and last June, so it’s not too soon to start thinking about staying warm.)

I wanted a pattern that would be quick but not too boring to stitch. So, I designed this scarf that uses one skein of yarn and features ridges and “beads.” Of course, you can always use up partial skeins and make a multicoloured scarf. (I did this to make a scarf with Edmonton Oilers colours!)

The pattern is offered free of charge in hope that others will be encouraged to donate hand-crafted scarves and mittens to their local shelters and schools.
