This is a light, lacy cowl that has an easy to remember lace pattern that includes beads (optional) for some extra sparkle. This project is perfect for an adventurous beginner who wants to try lace or beading for the first time, but it is also suitable for those who are advanced beginners and experienced knitters as well. This is great as a quick and easy gift or for making yourself something nice with that small skein of special yarn you bought! This cowl can easily be adjusted to make it longer or shorter if desired by adding multiples of eight stitches.

The sample was knit using three full vertical repeats of the pattern. If you wish to make yours larger be sure to have more yarn and more beads.

If you wish you can omit the beads and simply knit that stitch.

Gauge:
Gauge is 8 stitches and 10 rows per inch knit in pattern (unblocked) in the round (although gauge is not terribly important for this pattern)

Finished dimensions:
Unblocked - 7 inches high and 19 inches around
Blocked - 7 inches high and 34 inches around

Materials:
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn (50 grams OR 230 yards)
Needles and Notions:

  • 3mm (US size 2) circular needle or size necessary to achieve gauge (Ravelry lists the size conversions as 3mm = US size 2.5 while my needle case lists the conversion as 3mm = US size 2)
  • 120 size 8 seed beads (optional) If you increase the size of the cowl you will need more beads
  • Small crochet hook, dental floss, or whatever you use to add beads to your knitting
  • Tapestry (darning) needle
  • Stitch markers (if desired to mark the beginning of your round and between repeats)

The pattern is both charted and fully written out.
