The name for the pattern came to me when I watched my Wisteria slowly climbing up the trellis I had made for it this spring. I am training it in a braid, so the cables and lace on the socks reminded me of the fresh spring shoots and the ladder they were climbing up on.

This pattern combines an easy cable column with a small lace pattern. Skills require knowing how to use a cable needle, how to work yarn overs, knit and purl, picking up stitches and working in the round.

The sample was completed in Patons Kroy Socks Stripes ( 84 grams/279 yards) on needle size US 3/ 3.25mm for a size M. Size can also be adjusted by going up or down one needle size.

Gauge : 15 stitches / 2 inches in cable/lace pattern.
Yarn: Approximately 280 yards of sock yarn, fingering weight.
Notions: Cable needle and darning needle. Set of DPN’s, or circular needles.
