My daughter was planning her winter wedding, and asked me to make a cover-up that her bridesmaids could wear outdoors for her pictures. She wanted to take advantage of the scenic Hudson River with outside photography, yet be cozy and comfortable. I knew she would want something elegant, yet functional to keep the girls warm. I designed shawls to be easy to wear , as well as stylish. This pattern is for the cream cabled shawl in the center of the picture; the other pattern shown is also available in my Ravelry store. It is one piece, so the girls would not have to fuss with keeping the shawl closed. There are no seams to sew, the end product is sleek and neat. I included three back buttons to be sewn onto a placket, so the shawl would open wide and not mess the hair. I used crystal buttons, but pearls or glitter would also be beautiful. I surprised the girls with fingerless gloves to finish the look. My daughter and her friends were thrilled with the final product, and I gave the shawls for her shower. It was just what she wanted, and knows she and the girls will be able to use it often after her wedding day. It will be perfect for other receptions, for New Year’s eve, for the holidays, to work and even over jeans on a fall , winter or spring day. It can be dressed up or dressed down, and the shrug received great praise, and a number of requests. I used a merino wool/ silk blend, so the coverup is soft, flowing and rich.
