Notes From the Designer:

Silva is Latin for forest, woodland, or garden. In keeping with the theme of the yarn kit, this shawl takes us through a garden theme in four repeating sections: the trellis, the grass, the flowers, and the garden wall. The first row of the shawl is the bottom right side, and then the shawl is worked with decreasing rows on one side. This causes the shawl to remain straight across the top, but still taper into a triangular shape.

  • Click here to watch a tutorial on how to crochet several of the stitch patterns used in the design.
  • Approximately 840 yds/768 m total were used: Color A: 270 yds/247 m, Color B: 300 yds/274 m, and Color C: 270 yds/247 m.
  • In the pattern, you will be instructed when to cut the yarn and when to carry it up the side.
  • You can adjust the size by making a fhdc row in a multiple of 4 + 1.
  • Stitch decreases per section are as follows: 2 stitches per row for the trellis, 1 stitch per row for the grass, 1 stitch per row for the flowers, and 2 stitches per every other row for the garden wall.
  • The starting chain for each row DOES NOT count as a stitch.
