This pattern is both a hat and a set of wrist warmers. The wrist warmers can be done both on straight needles as well as on the magic loop, pair of 24” circular or double pointed. That is why you see both seamless and seamed. In the round as will as flat. That’s why I suggested the skill level to start at intermediate.
Both the hat and the wrist warmers are made from the bottom up.
They can be made with all one yarn or you can add a fuzzy, sparkly or other decorative yarn for the bands. The simple cable is just as it sounds. It is made with only two stitches. So no cable stitch holder is needed. You simple knit in the back loop of the second stitch, Next the front loop of the first stitch, then slip them both off the needle. And Voila, cable stitch done.
The hat takes between 45 and 70 yards of yarn and the wrist warmers are about the same. So usually one ball of most yarns will make a set. Of course if you choose a fuzzy yarn, a ball of that will need to be added to the purchase.
They hat takes size 8 needles. The hat is on done on 16” circular needles and double point to finish the top. The wrist warmers on Sz 6 or Sz 7 depending on the size you are ameing.
The band of the hat and wrist band of the wrist warmers are done in a 1x1 rib. The body of the hat is in the simple cable and the top of the wrist warmers are 1x1 rib. Once I figure out how to add the simple cable to the wrist warmers, I will resubmit the pattern and you will receive an update.
