This is a really simple ribbed and cabled hat to get you started on your hat loom. The sample shown was made on the baby loom, but you can adapt the pattern to use either on a larger loom, or regular knitting needles (DPNs or Circulars).

The sample shown was made in worsted weight yarn and hat size when laying flat is 7 ½ inches long by 4 inches wide. It stretches out to about 13 inches in diameter, which makes it a preemie or newborn size hat. When working on the loom, for larger baby and toddler hats you’ll want to use a bulky or super bulky yarn, and still use every peg on the loom to make it bigger. To make the hat longer if you want more slouch just continue the pattern longer.

The gauge is 21 stiches and 29 rows = 4 inches in K2, P2 rib pattern, so if you’re knitting, you can use whatever yarn weight and needles size you want to get that gauge.

The sample shown is made in Landscapes worsted weight yarn and was thick enough to create a preemie hat. You can get your Baby Knitting Loom here if you don’t already have one.

This pattern is both written and includes a chart, and there is a video where I show you all the techniques step by step, so you can work from whichever suits you best.

You can also modify this pattern for use with the kids or adult size looms, simply repeat the pattern around and modify the length of the hat as follows:

Baby- 6 ½” - 7 ½”

Kids- 7”-8”

Woman- 8 ½” - 9 ½”

Man- 9”- 9 ¾”
