I haven’t found an earflap hat pattern that I really liked, so I made this one up. I’m still developing this pattern, so let me know if you find any errors or places for improvement. I haven’t tested the gauge.

You can add stripes or colorwork as you like. I don’t recommend using two different weights of yarn like I accidentally did; it created some ripples. You could vary the length of the braids or leave them off completely. A pom-pom would also look good.

I lined the flaps and body of the hat with fleece to make it warmer and less itchy. (Not the crown, see pictures) I folded a piece of fleece in half, folded it in half and cut around the front and earflap section cut a few extra inches in the back or cut an additional piece of fabric to make it go all the way around. Simply fold the edges under 1/8-1/4” and machine sew it to the inside of the hat. I’m planning on making a template for the lining to add to this pattern.
