These shawls are simply pretty and pretty simple to knit. One easy but stunning lace pattern stitch is worked in your choice of two different triangular shawl shapes. The single pattern stitch is worked top-down, so you can keep knitting until you’re ready to stop.

Variation 1 is a deeper shawl, with width approximately twice the height.
Variation 2 has faster increases and results in a shallower, wider piece, with width approximately three times the height.

Both charted and written instructions are provided for both variations.

SIZES
Medium (Large)

APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS (after blocking)
Variation 1: 54 x 22 (60 x 25) inches
360 (430) yds worsted weight
Peach sample worked in Sundara Aran Silky Merino

Variation 2: 54 x 18 (63 x 21) inches
300 (400) yds worsted weight
Blue sample worked in Mackintosh Skye Sock, held double

Samples are shown in worsted weight in the Medium size as written. However, any yarn can be used, and any number of repeats can be worked for a desired size. To get a similar Medium or Large size in fingering weight yarn, plan to use approximately 400 or 550 yards, respectively. (Note that for larger sizes of Variation 2, as more stitches are added, the “wings” will eventually curve inward into a gentle “U” shape.)

10/4/10 Clarification for Variation 2 instructions
For the Variation 2 Body, the reversal of the decreases applies to chart-reading only. (If you are following the written directions, just follow as written.) It may help you to use the written directions for the first 5 rows, before using only the chart. Because Row 1 is symmetrical (the only symmetrical row with decreases), you may at first wonder why working a mirror image is necessary, but once you finish Rows 3 and 5, it will make more sense.
