This pattern has been temporarily pulled for revision.

Sixteen is a sweet slouchy hat featuring a dainty i-cord ribbon and Milanese lace worked right through the crown.

The 6-page pattern offers two variations: the first is written specifically for DK merino and a 21-inch noggin’; the second is an Extended Pattern allowing you to customize your hat for a different yarn, or a bigger or small gal.

Once you’ve finished knitting, the degree of slouch is entirely up to you during the blocking process, but be aware that this design works best with 100% wools, as silks and cottons allow for too much stretch when blocking. My dear model, age 9, is sporting the 21-inch version fully blocked to show off the lace.

Sixteen is a quick knit, with very little finishing required to make it wearable. In just an afternoon, you can have your new hat ready to go, making it an ideal accessory to a most-loved outfit or a speedy gift for your best girl friend.

NB: A special thank you goes out to my test-knitters, who stuck with me through a very difficult time and whose finished projects helped refine the pattern. During the course of this test, my family lost our much loved Abyssinian, who had traveled the world with us and was practically human. She was sixteen years old when she passed, and this pattern is named for her.
