Skadi is a toe-up sock pattern featuring a textured design in knit and purl and twisted stitches. Skadi is a jötunn, but also a goddess. She is associated with bowhunting and skiing, and her name is commonly believed to be the base for Scandinavia, where one possible meaning is “Skadi’s island”.

The design is based in purl stitches on a stockinette background. The moss stitch zigzags are meant to evoke the downhill path of skiing and the v’s in the centre of the sock both hint at arrow points and at the pattern made by going uphill with cross country skis. The top of the sock forms point and valley of the mountains and also gives the appearance of a sock coming out of a ski boot.

The Skadi pattern is the third installment of the MacKintosh Yarns Sock club 09/10. The pattern will become available for the wider audience at a later date.
