Maria Larsson Märak was born in the Västerfjäll in 1875 and had Sami as her mother tongue. As an adult, she lived on the mountain farm Skaite in Jokkkmokk’s municipality, Sweden.

Mary was an accomplished knitter. Her characteristic patterns, which was recognized as “Skaite-Marie” throughout the valley of Pärlälven, are made up of squares, lines and triangles. The pattern elements can be found worldwide in knitting but Mary put them together in a way that was very specific to her.

Requirements: 40 g of ea colour.
