The .PDF for Skep Cap 1 is 20% off through January 24th, 2022, to celebrate the release of Skep Cap II! If you happen to have followed the link, then you get to know about it.

Skep Cap 1 is designed to be adjustable, with an accordion shape that adjusts to the wearer. It has a vaguely artificial-bee-basket-inspired look, and knits up quickly in heavy fingering-weight yarn.

The samples shown use the Reef Shark Shark Bites set from Beach Bunny Yarns. Both hats shown were knit from a single set, but if you’re trying to knit both from one set, you’ll need to adjust color transitions to do the smaller cap, as the project requires just a couple of extra yards for the third and fourth colors. (On the smaller sample shown (final photo), color transitions are not exactly in line with where they’re supposed to be, and the last transition has more of a fade effect—but the gradient is so good in this set that it works anyway.)

Gauge:
Gauge is fairly important to this project, because it’s a hat. Gauge is 26 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm in blocked stockinette st, worked in the round. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Materials:
About 160-188 yards of Beach Bunny Yarns Shark Bites (Reef Shark shown, about 10-12g/40-47yds each color, 4 colors total), or another substantial fingering-weight yarn.
1 16”/40cm circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge
5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
4-6 removable stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Sizes:
Small fits smaller adults and older kids, and has a relaxed circumference of about 17”/44cm.
Large fits larger adults, and has a relaxed circumference of about 18.5”/47cm.
