Skip-Hop is a two (or more) color tuck stitch hat. A tuck stitch is a stitch that is made by taking on more than one loop per stitch, the most prevalent example of a tuck stitch in modern hand knitting is the brioche stitch; this hat uses 2 different tuck stitch patterns. Tuck stitch can achieve the look of colorwork while maintaining a stretchy, squishy fabric. When creating colorwork fabric by slipping stitches (mosaic knitting) or alternating 2 colors in the same row (stranded colorwork), you carry the strand of yarn, or float, that is not being worked across the front or back of your fabric. In tuck stitch the float is carried or released (depending on the method used) over the stitch created instead of in front or behind, resulting in a looser, more textured fabric. This pattern includes three sizes, making it the perfect hat for the whole family.
A note about terminology: If you have knit brioche before, the terminology in this pattern may look a little different. I have eliminated the brk and brp, and instead just use k and p with the assumption that each sl1yo is treated and a single stitch when worked (this is reemphasized throughout the pattern for knitters new to tuck stitches).

Yarn: 2 skeins of Spincycle Yarns Dream State (100% superwashed American Wool / 150 yards per skein) in contrasting colors, or 2 contrasting skeins of DK/ light worsted weight yarn.
Sample shown on cover uses House of A La Mode House DK in Bunny for color A, and Spincycle Yarns Dream State in Mississippi Marsala for color B. Note that color A will be the dominant color in the brim, and color B will be the dominant color in the body of the hat.

This would also be a great hat for using up Dream State scraps!

Needles: Size US 4 (3.5mm) 16” circular needles, and one set of size US 4 (3.5mm) DPNs or long circular for crown decreases. Adjust needle size accordingly to achieve gauge.
