Deep, deep within the forest, where no clumsy human feet ever wander, there is an extraordinary place.
A place where the untouched pines stretch high towards the sky and cast the forest into everlasting dusk. The evening sun dribbles through the branches and paints the soil in soft, red shades. The thick layer of pine needles makes every footstep silent and the pungent fragrance of thick, sticky resin can be sensed at every breath.
Less than a stone’s throw away, behind three rich green firtrees, a cottage stands with dark, rugged walls and a grassy roof. Dark puffs of smoke rise from the small chimney, slowly drifting towards the stars high above. Inside the cottage, in front of the warming fire which keeps the creeping coldness of dusk out, is a figure with large fluffy hair and a bobbed tail.
It’s the Troll Mother, who has just sung her eleven small troll children to sleep. Now, she sits in her softest armchair, comfortably leaned back with a content smile upon her lips. The needles in her hands clicks gently when she croons the most beautiful words she knows: “Ho, aiai aiai buff!”

Circular needles in size to obtain gauge, e.g. with a length of 40-60 or 100 cm / 16-24” or 40”

When knitting the sample, gauge was obtained on 3.5 mm / US4 needles by a knitter who is a tight knitter. So to obtain gauge, you might need to go down a needle size.

Gauge

Always knit a swatch to make sure your gauge is correct. Otherwise, your cowl will have different measurements than defined in this design.
