From Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker:

Two years ago, my friend Bryan asked me to make him an afghan with a skull design on it, so I had him draw a skull and then I graphed it out.  In an effort to test the pattern on a smaller scale, the skullholder was born.  I’ve used the same pattern on hats, used old macrame cord to make a mat with a skull on it, and made patches using thinner thread.  Unfortunately, I have yet to make the actual afghan--mainly because it was contingent on his getting me the yarn, and he has yet to do that.  At any rate, these make great housewarming gifts for people with hip kitchens, and they’re really quick to make once you get the hang of switching colors.
