This scarf is a replica of beautiful scarves worn by the Slovakian team during the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The main motif of Slovak attire was based on a traditional folk pattern originating from the village of Čičmany in northern Slovakia.

I created the charts from the images found online. There are some small changes but otherwise I tried to get as close as possible to the original.

The scarf is knit in one piece using double knitting technique. It is double thick, reversible, and looks great on both sides. It is possible to have this as your first double knitting project but you should get yourself familiar with the technique first.

The pattern includes 8 pages of the complete chart for the scarf for your convenience. If you are printing the pattern, you only truly need first 4 pages of the chart. After completing row 254, you can turn your pages upside down and use them for the second half of the scarf. It is entirely symmetrical!

Materials
Two contrasting colors of wool yarn (the original design was made in black and white and red and white combinations).
Recommended yarn weight is from fingering to light sport.
The sample was made in Knit Picks Palette and used less than 2 balls (460 yd/420 m) of each color.

Gauge
Gauge is not critical for this project. However, if you use thick yarn you are going to end up with a very long scarf.
The sample gauge is 30 stitches x 30 rows = 4” in double knitting.

Needles
Two circular needles or one circular needles with a long and flexible cord.
Recommended size US 2 – US 4 (2.75 mm – 3.5 mm) depending on the yarn used. Also, take into consideration that gauge in double knitting is often looser than in regular stockinette.
The sample is made on US 2 needles.
Two needles are only used for the cast on and cast off. The body of the scarf is worked on one circular needle or a pair of straight needles.

Finished Dimensions
The dimensions will depend on the yarn and needles used.
The sample measures approximately 6.5” (16.5 cm) wide and 63” (160 cm) long.

This is my first pattern and I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
