This crochet pattern includes instructions for small and mini gift bags in two size variations, several color schemes, and several different tie options. Each one works up quickly and is fun to make. The gift bags shown are done in Christmas Holiday colors but you can enjoy creating your own color scheme for any occasion, holiday, décor, or season, as well as school and team colors for any alumni or sports fan on your gift list. The hand crocheted gift bag is reusable and adds a thoughtful, personal touch to any gift for Christmas, Hanukkah, Birthdays, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, Housewarmings, Hostess Gifts, Graduations, Weddings, Showers, and so many other occasions. The mini version is perfect for jewelry while the small version can accommodate larger items, such as small electronics, DVDs and much more!

Skill Level: Easy – some experience helpful.

Materials:

Hook: F Hook (3.75 MM)

Yarn: Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice. For the Small Three Color Gift Bags and the Mini Striped Gift Bags, 1 skein each of three colors: Cranberry (Color #180), Olive(#174), and Beige(# 123). You can make at least 1 each of the 3 mini and 2 small three color bags with the 3 skeins. For the Mini Square Sides Gift Bag: small amounts of Cranberry (#180), Olive (#174), White (#100), Colonial Blue (#109), Mustard (#158) and Purple (#147). For the Small Two Color Gift Bag: about 50 yds of Mustard(#158) and about 20 yards of White(#100).

NOTE ON YARN: I’ve learned that the yarn I recommended when I wrote this pattern has been discontinued and has limited availability. In case you have trouble finding it, i’m recommending a substitute yarn that is very similar. Red Heart With Love Solids is a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn available in many colors. The colors similar to the ones in the photos are as follows: Aran (#1303), Lettuce (#1601), Berry Red (#1914), White (#1001), Blue Hawaii (#1803), Cornsilk (#1207), and Lavender (#3720). If you want a darker green, another substitute for the Olive shade is Red Heart Soft, either Dark Green or Dark Leaf. (See Addendum after download)

These bags, especially the mini versions, are good stash buster projects suitable for any type of worsted weight yarn.

Satin, wound, twisted, braided or other cord or ribbon - 30” for each small bag; 20” for each mini bag (optional – instructions included for crocheting a chain instead of using cord)

2 - 6 Decorative Metallic Beads or round Pearl hanging beads for each bag (optional)

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project. The base of the mini size gift bag, done in single crochet, is about 2” diameter (side to side across the middle). The base of the small gift bag, also done in single crochet, is about 4” diameter.
