A ‘smalti’ was a small glass tile used in mosaics during the Byzantine era.

This cowl is knit entirely in the round, the ‘smalti’ pattern is achieved through slipping stitches, so you are only ever working with one yarn colour at a time. Using only a small amount of aran or worsted weight yarn it is also the perfect stash buster for using up some leftover yarn.

You will need:
70yds / 64m main colour
55yds / 50m contrast colour
A short 5mm / US8 circular needle
1 stitch marker

The finished cowl is 7” / 18cm high and 23” / 58cm in diameter, the size of the cowl is very easy to adjust and the pattern includes details on how to do so.

This is a written pattern with no charts.
