These mittens knit up very fast. They are made in WW wool on size 3US needles. This makes them fairly windproof.
The pattern is easy. The ribbing past the thumb gives a lot of flexibility to the mitten. The thumb is made using the same principle as accidental heel, by knitting a few stitches with a waste yarn, then picking up the stitches after it was removed.
The mittens are made in superwash worsted weight wool, they knit up pretty fast. I was able to finish a pair a day and still have a life.
A part of the pattern is the joy of ribbing, that tightly fits skinny little hands.
