There is a thread in my group as a ’Smoked Pearls Endless KAL’ for knitters of this shawl.

The inspiration for this piece was drawn from its beautiful yarn – a silk and alpaca blend from Green Tea Yarns called Oysters on the Bay. I wanted to emphasise the gleam of the silk with an elongated pattern in a design that would also show off the beautiful drape of the fabric.

The shawl is reversible with six panels of a stocking-stitch based lace design, and uses only the simplest of lace stitches. Three panels face one side and three the other with all the lace knitting done in the ‘knit side’ sections. In each row you are knitting both ‘front-knit’ and ‘back-purl’ sides, i.e. a lace section followed by a purl section repeated 3 times. The alternating knit and purl sections encourage the shawl to drape with the knit sections always outermost.

Charts and written instructions are both included.

The blocked piece as knitted measured approximately 150cm x 45cm, however the final size will vary according to yarn and needle choices. The shawl would best suit a softly variegated yarn with a high silk content to best reveal both the yarn and the shawl design.
