Smokestack is a handsome dark grey and black hat with a single, gently undulating lace panel, meant to be evocative of smoke rising.

I wanted a hat that was simple and dark, but not your basic beanie. I envisioned it in black and grey but I think the pattern would be beautiful on a variety of different color combinations. The two yarns I used are both superwash merino that I had on hand, but you could use any fiber that fits your fancy, as long you get approximate gauge.

The pattern is written as one size, meant to fit an average to small female head, but it is extremely simple to adjust.

Materials Needed:

16” circular needles, size 7
DPNs, size 7
approximately 50 yards in black and about 80 yards in dark grey of DK weight superwash merino
