Fidget Snake Crochet Pattern
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY, AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH ONLY.
THIS LISTING DOES NOT INCLUDE A COMPLETED TOY.
Create your own flexible, textured snake that can be twisted and coiled with movements just like a real snake! Perfect for busy hands, future herpetologists, or your next crochet craft market! This is a quick make that can be completed with scrap yarn or about half a skein of any yarn. This project is suitable for adventurous beginners that are familiar with increases, decreases, and placing multiple stitches (up to 6) into one space.
Required Materials:
- 2 safety eyes (or a needle to add embroidered eyes)
- A small amount of stuffing for the snake’s head
- Any yarn, roughly ½ a skein per snake.
- A crochet hook, 1-2 sizes smaller than recommended for your yarn weight. If you are a looser crocheter, go down 2-3 hook sizes. (You want very tight tension for this project, to ensure a tight tail spiral!)
The heavier your yarn, the larger your completed snake will be. There is a lot of variation in finished length, depending on your hook size and personal tension.
Use the following measurements as a rough size guide:
- Sport Weight: approximately 28-36” snake
- Worsted Weight: approximately 36-50” snake
- Bulky Weight: approximately 48-60” snake
Stitch Glossary (US Terminology):
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
tr - treble crochet
inc - single crochet increase
dec - single crochet decrease
Construction Notes:
This pattern is worked continuously in the round and does not require sewing to attach your body pieces.
Important Safety Warning This pattern as written is not intended for young children, as the body portion poses a suffocation hazard. Please take care when making this pattern that the body length is never greater than your recipient’s neck circumference, or if longer, that it is marketed to adults only. Your pattern purchase includes instructions on how to adjust the finished length of your snake.
