This is a .pdf crochet pattern, written in standard American crochet terms. With this easy and very detailed pattern, you can make an utterly adorably mother and pup sea otter.

Size
If you use the recommended yarn, your adult otter will be 8 inch / 20 cm and the baby 5.5 inch / 12 cm long.

Materials
For these crochet sea otters you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need four colours of yarn: acorn, 1/3 of a 100-yard skein, light beige (1/6), murky browm (1/6) and a left-over bit of sheep black. For the eyes I’ve used 7 & 6 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill to stuff the otters and a hard (pet or nail) brush to make the baby look more fuzzy. Lopi colour numbers: 0053, 0086, 1420, 0052.

The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal. Pictures and illustrations to help getting everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by an experienced crocheter before publishing.

Yarn
Istex Lett lopi & Einband Lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result.

Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
