Made in worsted weight merino, Snowfield Hat uses a simple cable pattern that swirls at the centre. The crown is shaped with decreases incorporated in the cable pattern. A pattern for a matching cowl, Snowfield Cowl, is available in my Ravelry store.

Skills needed
Long tail CO, knit, purl, decreases, working simple cables.

Sizes
S (M, L1, L2)
(Sizes L1 and L2 have the same circumference, but L1 is 1.5 cm/ 0.6 in shorter than L2.)
Brim circumference: 40 (44.5, 46.5, 46.5) cm/ 15.75 (17.5, 18.5, 18.5) in.
To fit head up to approx: 51 (56, 59.5, 59.5) cm/ 20 (22, 23.5, 23.5).
Height: 19.5 (21, 22, 23.5) cm/ 7.75 (8.25, 8.75, 9.25) in. Shown in size L2.

Gauge
Main cable pat: 24 sts (2 pat reps) and 30 rows = 10 cm/ 4 in, with 5 mm needles, after blocking.

K2p2 rib pat (brim): 18 sts = 10 cm/ 4 in, with 4 mm needles, after blocking and slightly stretched.

Materials
Yarn:
1 (1, 1, 1.5) skeins of Malabrigo Worsted (100% merino wool, 198 m/ 210 yds per 100g, shown in Blue Surf), or approx 200 (200, 200, 300) m / 220 (220, 220, 330) yds of similar worsted weight yarn.

Needles and notions:
one 5 mm (US size 8) circular needle, 40 or 60 cm/ 16 or 24 in long (main needle)
one 4 mm (US size 6) circular needle 40 cm/ 16 in long or DPNs in the same size
one set of 5 mm (US size 8) DPNs
cable needle (CN)
yarn needle

Take time to make a gauge swatch. Adjust needle size, if necessary.
