Dimensions of the finished cloth can vary so much depending on a person’s knitting style, tension, and on what yarn brand is used etc. Pima cotton, Bernat Handicrafter cotton, P&C cotton, Lion Brand cotton, I Love This Cotton, mercerized cotton and many other brands will differ in their spin and density. That mixed with the knitters personal knitting tension/style will give a variety of sizes to the same pattern when it’s just a small square.

The same cloth can be made in DK or even sport weight yarn with appropriate sized needles and get a very different result. Cloth patterns knit in bulky weight yarn can be made into a lap blanket with extra rows added top and bottom.

The cloth pictured above when knit with I Love This Cotton yarn and using 3.75 mm needles turns out to be 8” square for me.
