I enjoyed knitting this snuggly, deep hat. I live in southern California and we don’t get snow often; but this summer has been sooooo hot and even muggy and I am longing for the white stuff!

The hat is knitted out of Berroco Vintage Chunky. It’s a soft, inexpensive, washable wool blend perfect for those cold days. The hat has a deep ribbing and is overall deep enough to cover your ears and thick hair. This hat will fit a man, woman, teenager, and large older child. You can add a big pompom to the top for extra fun.

The pattern includes a large easy-to-read chart and the directions for the chart are also written out for those who don’t enjoy working from charts. This is a good introduction to lace knitting, if you are wanting to begin slowly.

It works up quickly on size US 9/5.5mm 16”/40cm circular knitting needles and double pointed needles of the same size. The lace looks like big feathery snowflakes. (We would get snowflakes like that when we lived on the Canadian border in Michigan close to Lake Superior!) You will need to know how to or learn to k, p, s2kpo, ssk, k2tog, yo. Instructions are included for these stitches (except k and p). The hat is worked in the round.
