This lovely baby blanket is a great project for a beginner but interesting enough for a more experienced knitter. It uses a variation of the seed stitch to create texture that adds visual interest without making the blanket too dense.

Suggested length is 36”, but you can, of course, make it longer or shorter to suit your tastes. This also makes a nice lap robe for an older person, but if so, do not go longer than 36”, as it will have a tendency to get caught in wheelchair wheels.

The stitch to row gauge proportion may seem off, but because the gauge is measured in pattern rather than stockinette, like garter or seed stitch, the pattern stitch is wider than it is tall.

Yarn: Fancy Image Superwash DK Merino, 4 skeins, 250 yds each, or Cascade 220 Superwash, 4 skeins. Solid or semi-solid colors show the stitch pattern better than more strongly variegated colors.

Needles: US Size 6 (4 mm)—recommend 32” circular—or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions: measuring tape; 2 stitch markers; blunt bent-tipped yarn or tapestry needle; scissors. Felting needle and pad or pin cushion optional.
