The purchase of this pattern will help me pay for my college classes.

Two years ago I FINALLY realized what I want to do for a career! During that time while my husband visited an alcohol rehab center is when I met a social worker who changed my life. Of course, her skills impacted my husband even greater than it did for me, due to his daily contact with her. I watched her words and ability to resolve conflict change long standing arguments in the matter of minutes into a resolution that we could both live with. When I saw the impact that she made, I knew that’s what I want to do.

My husband is a police officer and went to a first responder rehab center out of state. The more I looked into the rehab center, I realized first responders deal with more than what most know. To the general public, we call 911 on what is usually one of the worst days of our lives. However, that’s what a first responder sees every day. MANY first responders struggle with some of the scenes they are called to. Some choose to drink to “take the edge off”, and then the downhill struggle begins. What I want to do is become a social worker with a focus in addiction recovery, to help first responders. Helping them is what will make our society a stronger society. I want to help our modern day heroes be healthy so they can continue to protect, rescue and serve.

Today, I have my husband back. He has been sober for two years and is doing very well. He actually received a Meritorious Award from the Mayor yesterday morning. It’s so nice that others are acknowledging that he’s a hero, however, I’ve known he’s a hero for a long time. I’m so proud of how far he has come.

PATTERN details

This patterns is a simple basic cowl knit on the bias. This is great for a new knitter, or a mindless knit for a project that welcomes distractions. It’s a very simple project. This pattern is a great stash buster. The first one I knit with this pattern, I picked some beautiful silk yarn that had been sitting for a long time, it just needed the right pattern.

Special note on the yarn: this is a pattern where you can easily customize it to any yarn you like. This pattern is simple to make the cowl wider or skinnier, longer or shorter.
