This is a sock monkey that will travel anywhere or lounge across the back of a chair. Wherever it’s found, it is sure to bring smiles.

The scarf is knit in the round, beginning with the legs and ending with the arms. Stitches are picked up for the head, which doubles as a pocket; and there is a purled heart on the chest. An option is given to pick up and knit stitches for the tail, and the ears, eyes, and hat button are sewn on.

Other options include customizing the length, knitting a hat button, and working the paws and tail tip in ribbing like older sock monkeys or in stockinette stitch like the newer ones. The paws can be left open as shown or sewn closed.

Instructions include changes for three traditional colors, but this scarf also can be knit in one color or an array of others. Designed for worsted weight yarns, it can be made narrower by using Sheltland, sport, and DK weight yarns.
