The Soft Caramel Hat is gorgeously feminine with a flattering brim and attached crocheted flower. So quick and easy to make you could have one in each of your favourite colours.

Materials:
100g skein of Chunky/ Worsted Yarn. Pictured example made with Chunky yarn by Marriners, in Taupe.
Oddment of DK/Light Worsted Yarn. Pictured example made with DK yarn by Marriners in Turquoise.
6.00 mm Crochet Hook.
1 Medium Large Button.
Large eyed tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Finished Size/Gauge:
Finished size goes from 20 inches/51 cms unstretched to 24 inches/61 cms stretched, approximately, and will fit the majority of teenager and adult heads. Depth from crown to start of brim is approximately 6 inches/15 cms unstretched and 9 inches/ 23 cms stretched. The brim is approximately 2 inches/5 cms deep. This hat is not as close fitting as the beanie hats.
Gauge is not critical because of the ‘stretch factor’ if you would like a particularly large diameter hat then go up a hook size or two, bearing in mind that more yarn will be required. The length is easily lengthened by repeating round 18 or if you require it to be shorter and smaller in diameter for a younger girl, omit round 8 entirely.

Method:
The Soft Caramel is made from the top down starting with a magic loop and worked in the round, in one piece, to eliminate seaming. The flower is made separately and attached by sewing. Although chunky yarn is used, the larger hook and method of the stitch pattern, produces a very light and pliable fabric, which is lovely to wear.
