Light & lofty rectangle stole with lace weight yarn and big needles.

Songbird begins with just one stitch and the stitch count is gradually increased on the right edge. The body is then worked in garter stitch and decorative eyelets with the stitch marker traveling one stitch at a time first to left border, then back to right border, and then once again to left border. Row of eyelets is worked between every change of direction. Finally, stitches are gradually decreased on the left edge until only one stitch remains to be bound off.

Pattern is written for lace weight yarn, but would be equally gorgeous in fingering weight. Use extra large needle size for the lofty and airy look.

As always, blocking is where the magic happens. Blocking wires are highly recommended for smooth and neat edges.
