The Songwe skirt consists of two stockinette stitch panels, and two chevron stitch panels. It is easily worked circularly from the top of waistband down to hem bottom. Designed with 0% ease, the skirt will form fit with minimal bulk.
The topper consists of two attached flaps knitted flat in your choice of a colorwork pattern or a lace pattern. This skirt can be worn with the chevron panels positioned to the sides or front and back.
I created the faux animal print topper to mimic the waterfall-like stitch pattern of the skirt. The lace topper is called “English Mesh”, which is a nod to the falls named for Queen Victoria.
Victoria Falls in southern Africa, known as Mosi-Oa-Tunya (Smoke That Thunders) by the indigenous people, is widely accepted as the world’s most magnificent waterfall.
Songwe is the first named gorge, rather than numbered, and the deepest below the Falls. The Songwe River empties into this gorge along with the Zambezi River. This area of Africa has a plethora of fascinating wildlife both on land and in the river’s waters.
Take measurements of your torso: waist, hips, buttocks, thighs. Use the largest measurement in inches to find your size:
XS, 33-34” (S, 35-36”; M, 38-40”; L, 42-44”; XL, 46-48”; 1X, 52-53”; 2X, 54-55”)
To determine the length of the skirt, start .5” (1.25cm) below where the waistband will sit down to where you want skirt to end. The skirt and topper are knitted with the same size needles.
