Simple brioche and color blocks :: Sonnen :: a half circle color blocked shawl, knit using syncopating two-color brioche stitch.

Syncopated two color brioche is used to achieve eye-popping color blocks! There are two size options for this shawl: Small and Large. They both start the same way, and the pattern repeats are simple and easy to memorize. The real creativity comes from how often you change colors! See the Creative Diagrams included in the photos for some inspiration. They show just a handful of ways to play with color. Feel free to use up your stash yarn and create a super-stripey version of this shawl! I chose to use 2 colors to create many blocks for my small sample, and 4 colors to create 6 distinct color blocks with a small border for the large size. but you could switch it up and have 9 color blocks, or 12, or even more!

Skill level: Beginner - Intermediate. Basic two color brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), simple brioche increases. This half circle-shaped shawl is knit flat from the top of center back, down, and can be easily modified by adding or omitting pattern repeats!

Sizes: Small {Large} 55” / 139cm wingspan x 23” / 58.4cm depth, {76” / 193cm wingspan x 32” / 81.2cm depth, measured after blocking (full schematics included in pattern).

Swatching for this shawl is a great way to play with different colors, to see what will work! If you’re finding that two colors aren’t working as well as you might have hoped, switch which one is the Main Color! Two-color brioche is a fantastic way to use some of those fabulous speckled or variegated yarns in your stash!
