I have been asked so many times to make a crescent version of Ictis. Here it is, Southside, the fifth and an exclusive pattern to the Boos for Beginners Collection. It has a similar stitch pattern to Ictis but with a few subtle changes and a totally different lace edge.

Southside is named after the gin-based cocktail (details of final page) and gives a nod to Ictis itself; the roman name for St Michael’s Mount on the southern coast of Cornwall. Of course, another nod would be to make your Southside cocktail using Cornish Gin – that would be the icing on the cake!

Southside is a crescent shaped shawl that is totally addictive. It is an all-over lace pattern that is beaded throughout and is finished off with a beaded lace border that ends with a pretty and delicate hint of a frill. This pattern gently takes knitters one further step into lace knitting. Southside works beautifully as a little shoulder shawl, doubles as a scarf, can be worn middle at front and dangles at the sides, can be worn around the hips …

The original shawl was knit using Dye for Yarn Tussah Silk Lace, but can be made from almost any laceweight or fingering weight yarn. The pattern has been written so that it is very simple to increase or reduce the number of repeats giving you the ability to totally make this to a size to suit you.

PLEASE NOTE: - Needle sizes given for specified yarns though this pattern is suitable for any weight yarn but repeats of sections, needle sizes, yardage and bead requirements will vary.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or colour your bead placement in coloured pencils.

This pattern is charted and has full written instructions.
