The Spica shirt re-uses some of the ideas of the Spica cowl:
A clever combination of Garter, Stockinette and a Garter slip stitch pattern, all three with their specific gauges, will be used to shape the upper part of the shirt, which is no Raglan, but has cap sleeves which are being worked at the same time as the body.

As a counterpart to the upper body, where you have to pay attention to the stitch patterns, increases, the front V neck and eventually short rows on the sleeves, the lower body is kept simple.

Available bust sizes (circumference):
84/ 92/ 106/ 114/ 124 cm.

Gauge:

  • 28 sts x 36 rows in Stockinette
  • 27 sts x 54 rows in Garter
  • 30 sts x 72 rows in Garter slip stitch.

(For looser knitters than I am: 2 sts less per 10cm will result in the piece getting approximately one size bigger (this is merely a rule of thumb, not an exact calculation).*

Yarn usage:
Approx. 800/ 900/ 1000/ 1100/ 1200m of main color (MC) and 160-200m of contrast color (CC).

Required techniques:

  • Knit, purl
  • Slip stitches
  • Short rows
  • Increases: kfb/ pfb and M1L/ M1R
  • Decreases: k2tog/ ssk

Difficulty level: *** - **** out of 5 (medium to experienced)
