This poncho grew from the purchase of a single ball of Zauberball Crazy during a perfect afternoon visit to Amsterdam and the famous Stephen and Penelope yarn store. I wanted the design to remind me of my time there and it developed from the decision that I wanted to pair a simple shape and colour with a high contrast graphic element. I knew I wanted to use a mosaic technique and when I paired it with circular yoke construction, it reminded me of bicycle spokes which couldn’t be a better reminder of Amsterdam with all of its busy bicycle paths! I added the armholes to make it super easy to wear and super functional.

Like all of my patterns, Spokes in written in a clear, instructional style and includes video tutorials to allow anyone with basic knitting skills to learn the techniques to complete the project. The poncho is knit in the round using a basic mosaic technique which means you don’t need to strand or carry yarn. You are always knitting with a single colour in each row. With some strategic increases, the shape comes together easily with no complicated stitch patterns. The body is divided to create arm openings, then rejoined further along to create the bottom edge.

There are two sizes to choose from: small/medium and large/x-large. There are also two options for the neckline! I designed it with a wide ribbed neck to allow the wearer to pull it down off one or both shoulders, but also included a crew neck version for those who prefer a more traditional look.

When you purchse this poncho pattern, you will also receive the complimentary Spokes Cowl pattern at no additional charge!
