Spring Feverish 2024 I: Logos is a square kerchief modeled after a versatile bandana, and you can really apply your own creativity here. Wear it as a straightforward bandana or kerchief, use detachable toggle buttons to shape it into a mini-shawl or cowl, or even modify it into a shrug. (This will work as shown on a petite frame; add just one more pattern repeat to add 4.5”/11cm to the square to make one that’s less fitted.)

The sample is shown in handspun, but use fingering-weight yarn for an airy fabric, or sportweight for a heavier one.

Materials:

  • 1 skein or about 440 yards of fingering- to sportweight yarn; shown in handspun Shetland wool
  • 1 set of 5 DPNS in US4/3.5mm, or size needed for gauge
  • 1 16” circular needle in size needed for gauge, if preferred
  • 1 48” circular needle in size needed for gauge
  • 4 removable stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Crochet hook for cast-on
  • 2-8 buttons sized to fit eyelets (sample is shown with toggles, but lightweight buttons would be better)

Gauge:
Gauge is 19 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked stockinette stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge!

Measurements:
As shown, this bandana measures 22”/56cm along each side and is roughly square.

My goal with the Spring Feverish 2024 project—or at least the first three designs in it—is to create things that can be knit as smaller, quicker projects or expanded into larger ones. They’re mainly small projects with stable repeats, so you can knit them as the medium-sized projects show, or expand them.

None are as close to instant gratification as the original set, but you can knit them as intended, as small kerchiefs, or easily spend more time with a comfortable project if you find you enjoy it (and have more yarn). With this particular pattern, you can knit anything from the bandana-sized square shown to a full-on baby blanket or even a throw.
