I designed this sweater for my Yorkie, Sparky. I had never seen a dog sweater in person before, and at the time, I couldn’t find many patterns on the internet. So this is what I came up with after taking his measurements.

The body is worked in the round until the back leg opening, then worked back and forth to end. It is trimmed with attached I-cord, so a contrasting color could be used, but dpns will be needed regardless. This is a very stretchy pattern and could fit a dog up to 10 lbs comfortably. The collar can be folded down as a turtleneck. This design is also reversible.

Unfortunately, Sparky didn’t like wearing sweaters and would turn into a statue whenever I put this on him. He preferred ‘au naturale’! He has since passed on. Our new dog is a pomeranian mix named Tribble. They fit him well, even though he’s a bit shorter in body length than Sparky was. He seems to enjoy wearing the sweaters!

These were fun to design and knit up very quickly.
