This square is composed of four small squares joined together, the center is of raised leaves, surrounded by an insertion of closed knitting in resemblance of darts, and when a number of large square are worked and sewn together, the effect is heightened by the corners meeting and forming squares of ridged knitting, which alternate with the squares of raised leaves, and produce an appearance of two distinct patterns combined in one piece of work; the result is remarkably pleasing, and while the pattern is not difficult to accomplish, it makes one of the handsomest counterpanes that can possibly be imagined. Required, Strutts’ knitting cotton, No. 6 and a pair of steel knitting needles, No. 14.
