This lovely hat, scarf and gloves pattern uses simple knit and purl stitches to create the ‘Squares in Squares’ texture. It is a unisex design made to fit an adult and is very cosy as it is knitted in chunky/bulky weight yarn.

I believe that this pattern is fairly straightforward and would be good for someone who is new to knitting or just looking for something quick to knit. However, due to the hat and gloves being worked in the round, I would suggest that some experience with DPN’s or circular needles would be helpful.

It can be worked in any chunky yarn so long as you make sure to check your tension and ensure that you have the correct yardage. If you are buying 100g balls I would recommend 4 which should provide you with between 650m and 700m of yarn.

The quantity needed also depends on whether you wish to include fringing and a pompom. The pattern suggest 170m for the length of the scarf, should you wish it to be longer than this then please note that more yarn may be needed.

I have used yarn with a gauge of 14st and 20rows on 6.5mm needles according to the ball band but as I have used 6mm needles please be sure to complete a tension square first. You may wish to use the 6.5mm needles, or the size suggested by the ball band of your chosen yarn to get the correct tension.
