Squash season is a textured hat worked from the bottom up using only knit and purl stitches. This hat is meant to resemble the checker plaite basket weave pattern see in those baskets used for harvesting in days of yore.
There are options for either a fold over or beanie style 2x2 brim. The bulk of the hat is worked in a garter ridge with a stripe of what is meant to look like a woven portion that is vertical from brim to decreases. There are 3 different texture patterns to choose from for the bulk of the hat. Intended to be a simple pattern that will be interesting enough to keep one’s interest.
Pattern is VERY stretchy, when in doubt, cast on for the smaller size.
