Why not place a little squeaky bacterium next to your sink as a cute reminder to your family that they should wash their hands? You can knit one up in a couple of hours, so why not make your very own special brood of critters to brighten up your lab?!

The ButterflyLove pdf Squeaky Bacteria (Bacillus) knitting pattern gives you clear step by step instructions to make your own little collection of bacteria.

This pattern only involves knitting flat and is suitable for a beginner/intermediate knitter. You can also contact me at any point if you need technical advice or have any other queries.

What you will need:

2 knitting needles (US2/2.75mm or as per tension advice)
15-20g yarn for the cell body
5g yarn for each flagella (optional)
5g yarn for the nucleus/nucleoid (optional)
Embroidery floss/thread for the pili (optional)
Two black toy safety eyes (9mm)
Plastic toy squeaker (optional)
Polyfil stuffing
1 tapestry needle for finishing

Casting on and off
Increasing
Decreasing
I-cord

Stitches used:

Stocking stitch
