Granny motifs seem to be everywhere at the moment, including on bags! I thought I would switch things up a little and include circles in the squares (hence the name ‘squircle’ from square circles!). The bag is a handy size for market shopping or yarn shopping and because of the stretch in the stitches can accommodate more than you expect. There is always the option to line your bag with fabric to ensure nothing escapes.

This is a fun make that is prime for using up scraps of DK yarn, have a riot of colour and don’t forget to share your makes using #squirclebag and #artisancrochetdesigns.

Size
One size approx. H x W 35cm/14in x 38cm/15in (plus handle length)

Materials
4.5mm hook (US G)
4 x 100g balls Stylecraft Special DK
(DK, 100% Acrylic, 295m/323yds/100g)
Sample worked in shades midnight (1011), white (1001), matador (1010), royal (1117)
Removable stitch markers

Tension
Tension not critical for this project, but a tighter tension will give a denser fabric and will make a smaller bag.
One motif will measure 10cm/4in at round 3 (second last round before final colour to be used for joining rounds) using 4.5mm hook (or size needed to achieve tension)

Difficulty Rating
Easy

Skills Needed
Basic crochet stitches, working in rounds, working into the back loop, join as you go motifs.

Construction
Individual motifs are worked to the circle inner. Circles are squared and then a join as you go technique is used to create the bag shape. Finally handles are crocheted to desired length.

Pattern uses standard UK crochet terminology throughout (US conversions given in brackets)
