Inspired by a Quaker child’s cross stitch sampler from the late 1700s, these mittens are particularly suited to rustic, tweed, and mottled yarns that lend a sense of age to the finished product. The design is sparse and simple yet delicate and whimsical. The 2–strand braid adds texture while keeping the design spare. A picot hem is a dainty touch and may be substituted with a plain turned hem for more rustic types. These mittens are fully lined.

YARN
Outer: Harrisville New England Shetland - 197 yards/180 meters per 50 gram skein - 1 (1, 2, 2) skeins Pearl- MC and 1 (1, 1, 1) skeins Cocoa - CC.
This yarn is also packaged as an oiled weaving yarn in a 900 yard/822 meter, 8 oz. cone called Harrisville Shetland. My testers and I all used this put–up, straight from the cone, washing the mittens thoroughly in hot water and shampoo to remove the oil. If you use the yarn in this
put–up, you need one cone of each color and you‘ll have plenty left over.

Lining: Misti Alpaca Lace Canada - 437 yards (meters) per 50 gram skein - 1 skein CD42 Blue Mist Melange for all sizes. Lining yarn is held
single for the two smaller sizes and double for the larger two.
