Here is a quick, easy pattern to make your own St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun top hat! Crocheted almost entirely in double crochet, using two strands of worsted weight yarn, this hat is easy to work up in just one evening!

The hat features a floppy brim edged in reverse single crochet, a sunken top, and a belt-and-buckle trim.

Sized to fit an adult head. Reduce stitches or use a smaller hook to make a smaller hat. Using a single strand of yarn makes a small child’s size hat.

Difficulty level: Moderately Easy

Materials:
- any worsted/aran weight yarn:

  1. Hat -- 2 skeins, approx. 145 yards each (green & green/silver)
  2. Belt -- approx. 60 yards (black)
  3. Buckle -- scraps (yellow-gold)
  • crochet hooks, size N-15 (9.00mm) and H-8 (5.00mm)
  • yarn needle to weave in ends

Stitches Used: single crochet, double crochet, reverse single crochet, double crochet 2 together

Pattern was tested in the FPT Forum. NOTE: problems encountered mainly stemmed from misunderstanding that this hat is meant to have a sunken top. Thanks to my great testers! :-)
