Hook size:: one size smaller than usual for the yarn you work up the Rosies in. Look up Amigurumi charts, they help make real fluffy roses.

Crochet thread makes amazing rosies about thumb length wide. WW makes Rosies the size of your palm! These were designed to be realistic without being difficult or requiring felting.

For years, my family in Kansas has loved my thread and yarn irish roses. I enjoyed making them in small amounts each year… but had 2 issues with the first pattern… the gaping hole in the center & the slow chained and then fattened with sc’s round that allowed the 3rd & 4th round of petals.

I solved that when I found a pattern for a coneflower. That had the same amount of stitches that the first round of loops to make the petals needed. So, the coneflower bud went into my pattern!

Then, I discovered the Double Chain Stitch/Double Foundation/Double Base Chain. I watched videos to learn the stitch…

Easier way:: Chain 2, single crochet into the 2nd chain from hook, then sc into the front leg/pulled up loop of the sc below. Continue for as many stitches as you need! Makes a thick, ropelike chain of sc’s that has only the stretch the yarn gives it.
