This is a warm and cosy hat knitted in the round in Aran yarn. Its a unisex design for adults with a Fair Isle pattern. I choose Jamiesons of Shetland pure 100% wool Heather Aran. It makes a thick and warm hat which, with wear and careful washing, will felt nicely until he hat feels more like fabric than yarn.
If using circular needles, you may need to change to DPNS to work the decreasing on the crown, if not using the magic loop method.

The hat is named Stamford in tribute to a mountain leader who helped my youngest son recover from an serious leg injury by taking him hill walking and climbing.
